In order to use as many as possible of the original stones, we cleaned and evaluated the damage and possible restoration methods. Some minor cracks and spallings could be filled with successive limewater washes. The lower stones needed to be treated for salt penetration with repeated fresh water soaking treatments. The broken stones could be reset with anchor reinforcements. Some minor missing fragments could be filled with a lime based pigmented restoration mortar. The larger broken off segments needed Dutchman patches, and or a combination of methods.
